Teaching Certification from; NC Wesleyan, Research Triangle Park, NC. I am certified in; Science High School, Special Education K-12, Science Middle School, and Middle School Language Arts. I also have my Environmental Educators Certification from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.
Fellowships: I have had a National Science Teacher's Association, Dow Fellowship and a Kenan Fellowship with North Carolina State University. I am a current North Carolina Science Leadership Fellow and I am a National Endowment for the Humanities Scholar.
Boards: I am on the National Science Teachers Association Special Education Advisory Board and also part of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science Education Forum. I am also on the North Carolina School of Science and Math Educational Advisory Board. In addition I am on the North Carolina Science Leadership Association Advocacy Committee.
General Information: I have lived and worked in Asia and the Middle East for ten years, starting when I was in the US Peace Corps. I have worked in many fields from Health Policy to Research.
I want to help promote students with disabilities to learn science and consider STEM careers. Many of our most famous scientists from Einstein to Edison had disabilities.
I am Program Director for Catalyst: Creating Opportunities in STEM for Students with Disabilities, in Science House at North Carolina State University for high school students These students are from more than 20 high schools in NC and are currently Lemelson-MIT Invent Team Winners! One of the top 15 Teams in the USA and the only one from NC!
In addition to teaching, I love traveling, being in nature, learning and being with my family and friends. My family includes my three children, two who are working in their fields and graduated college and one who is still in college and my husband of 28 years and lots of relatives !
